The New Meta is a panel I co-founded, branded, curated, and moderated to discuss gender issues found within competitive gaming spaces.
The branding needed to reflect the content being discussed. It also needed to look “feminine” without resorting to stereotypical themes. Modular squares were used as a consistent motif to allude to pixels, an entity that all games have in common.
“Meta” is short for the term “metagame.” Metagame refers to the most up-to-date effective strategy being utilized for a competitive game. The panel’s name subtly suggests that an even better metagame would be more inclusive of women. The type is thus designed to appear as if it is breaking out of the contained box.
